EPAD Covid-19 Impact Survey - findings

EPAD Covid-19 Survey - Report findings

We are pleased to attach the findings from our recent survey that invited all those working in Edinburgh’s professional performing arts community to let us know how Covid-19 has impacted their work and what they fear and hope for the future of the city’s performing arts. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the survey.

Our findings show that this period of enforced reflection has amplified the pre-existing imbalance and inequalities within Edinburgh’s cultural sector. There are fears for the loss of financial stability, loss of creative opportunities and loss of access to communities. There are hopes for our sector to re-emerge with stronger connections, more equality of opportunity and better inter-sector communication & co-operation.

EPAD was founded with the aim of making Edinburgh’s performing arts sector more democratic. This survey proves that our role has been important in making the work and needs of the city’s independent artists and companies more visible. In this report we are calling on the City of Edinburgh Council to provide financial assistance to independent performing arts practitioners that will support the immediate and longer-term economic and wellbeing recovery of our artistic community.  We also lay out our continued commitment to achieving a shift in the operating culture of our community - but we cannot do this alone.  The report confirms the need for us all to work together to make small differences that will result in lasting change.
